Serious accidents can happen, no pun intended, if a small child is sitting on the toilet and trying to reach for toilet paper, it’s no joke!

Bathroom accessories are a saturated market meaning you can find them anywhere. Check online using Google, Yahoo, or Bing and you’ll be presented with more retailers selling bathroom accessories than you can handle. If you are not an avid online shopper, you can drive to any Bricks & Mortars store that’s home related and you’ll surely be able to find something. The video starts off by telling you that millions of tons of textile weight end up in landfills each year. They go on to state that Americans throw away more than 68lbs of clothing and textiles per person per year. Michelle talks about the various ways to recycle including charitable donations. She mentions that sometimes old, ratty clothing and towels are sometimes not donation worthy. Then she goes on to demonstrate how anyone, including you, can turn your old towels and clothing into luxurious bath bats.

The only materials you’ll need for the project include gridded matting which can be purchased at any fabric store, scissors, and the old bath towel. The first step is to decide on the size of the rug you’re going to make. Select the appropriate size gridding and begin cutting your bath towel into long strips. Each strip should be about ¾” in width. The strips are then cut into small links of about 5-6”. Depending on the size of the bath rug you’re making, you’ll need anywhere from 2-5 old bath towels.

Once you have the links cut out you can start tying them into the grid. You need to pull them thru the individual grid blocks and tie them off. You continue to do this until the grid if complete. The finished product will be a warm, cozy, and very plush bath mat. The important thing to remember if you decide to take on a project of this nature is that it doesn’t have to be perfect. You can skip some grids, tie them very quickly, and move on. There is plenty of room for error and you don’t want to lose sight of the fact that this is all part of recycling and doing your part for the environment.
